Our Story
A family tradition of skiing, service, and community
Ski Tunes Ski Shop began in 1991 when Grant Shultz and his wife Lynn opened a small tune‑up shop in the lower level of their renovated 1860s barn. At the time, Grant was a teacher in the Hempfield School District, running the school ski club and tuning students’ skis simply because he loved the sport and wanted others to enjoy it too. That spirit of generosity and passion shaped everything that came next.
What started as a cozy workshop quickly grew. As more families discovered Grant’s fair pricing, honest advice, and meticulous craftsmanship, Ski Tunes expanded from tune‑ups into sales, custom fittings, repairs, and full‑service ski and snowboard support. Word spread fast — not through advertising, but through the community of skiers who trusted Grant and appreciated the personal touch they couldn’t find anywhere else.
Over the decades, skiing became more than a business for the Shultz family — it became a family identity. Grant’s enthusiasm passed naturally to his children and grandchildren, who grew up on the slopes and in the shop. Many of the shop’s longtime helpers came from Grant’s ski group, the Rail Riders, a tight‑knit crew of passionate skiers who shared his commitment to doing things the right way.
Today, that legacy continues with Derek Shultz, who proudly carries Ski Tunes into its next generation. Derek grew up watching his dad tune skis, help customers, and build a community around the sport. Now, as owner and operator, Derek brings the same values to every interaction: treat people like family, do quality work, and help more folks fall in love with skiing.
From Pennsylvania to New England, the Rockies, Canada, and Europe, the Shultz family has spent a lifetime exploring mountains — and nothing makes them happier than helping others enjoy the snow just as much.
Whether you’re dropping off skis for a tune, gearing up for your first season, or outfitting your kids for the winter ahead, we’re here to share what we love most: the joy of skiing, passed from our family to yours.
